RULES OF ENGAGEMENT 2.0

The culmination of Aigars Larionovs MFA research at Florida State University. Created from academic and creative research over the course of two years of study. Based in the ideas of interaction found in Capoeira and mixed martial arts, joining choreography with improvisation structures. The work focuses on creating movement environments with distinct rules and places the dancers' decision-making and physical thinking processes at the forefront of the performance dramaturgy.

Catalyst Dance Group

A group of dancers who came together with the goal of exploring movement and expressing themselves freely. I was the artistic director and choreographer for most performances, but we were a group where everyone had a voice on theoutcome of the pieces

Astral Lane (sample)

An original evening-length work premiered in Saldus, Latvia in May 2015. It is a choreographic journey into the realm of dreams exploring how our everyday routines create the images we see in our sleep. From union with loved ones to social nightmares, to winless flight, the audience goes on a journey with the dancers and projections designed by Livija Tilgase.

Other Work

Brotherhood of Man (sample)

This work premiered in the Florida State University Days of Dance concert in April 2018. A trio looking at the vulnerability behind violent male behavior and toxic masculinity. The work investigates the competitiveness that arises from shifting power dynamics in modern society. One of my most recent choreographies created during my MFA studies at FSU.

Unshaken

Inspired by Musashi Miyamoto's The Book of Five Rings, this work looks at the concept of warriorship in everyday life. It premiered in the Florida State University Days of Dance concert in 2019 and served as part of my MFA research.

The Route

My Graduation work for the Latvia Culture College. An eleven minute piece based on the observations of people in public transport. A story of the synergies and battles that happen in the most commonly used means of transportation. Performed by my coursemates and other students of the LCC.

Capoeira in London

A capoeira performance choreographed for my students in Riga and performed in Dance attic (London). It was my first attemt at bringing compositional elements from contemporary dance into a capoeira performance.
